Letbek focuses on documenting sustainability

News

By hiring of Louise Aagard Jensen, Letbek A/S has taken a big step towards documented sustainability – on behalf of both its own and its customers. They want to prove the sustainablity of the production.

Being one of Denmark’s leading companies within the plastic recycling industry, Letbek will upgrade its focus on documenting the CO2 reduction of the company’s recycling production as well as the affects on the environment in general. In future, the raw plastic materials used in the company’s production will be analyzed, standardized and certified.

– We will make our own calculations and analyzes of the plastic we recycle and turn into new products. That is why we are now investing in making Louise our in-house material specialist, says CEO, Michael Bayer Thomsen.

There is an increase in requirements for documentation and questions from customers regarding environmental impact and documentation. This means that there is an ongoing dialogue and close collaboration around the products.

If you consider yourself sustainable, you must also be able to prove that you are.

– We want to support the needs of our customers. Therefore, we will work with a fact-based approach to plastic recycling and production. This will give us a competitive advantage in the market. Our approch to sustainability is that if you want to call yourself sustainable, you must also be able to prove that you are. We do not like the green washing principle, where you pay to compensate your CO2 emission. Instead, we want to prove that our production is actually circular and CO2-saving.

Louise has recently graduated as cand. scient. in biotechnology and chemical technology, and she has now taken up her new position at Letbek. She throws herself into working with life cycle assessment of plastic materials, chemistry in plastic recycling and calculations of material properties. All of it must ensure the good product quality and will certify Letbek’s recycling of plastic.

– I appreciate working with recycled plastic. We must all learn how to use our resources better and in more sustainable way in order to change our global Co2 emissions. We must strive to recycle the plastic that already exists, says Louise.
